Pregnancy
Dear Miranda, I would like to know your opinion on pregnancy and its relationship to the female cycle. I am 5 months pregnant and experiencing very strongly Mother Nature's blessings. I feel She is thankful for allowing her reproductive machinery to be successful. Moods still swing but gentle and less hostile. Before pregnancy I sometimes wondered if the pre-menstruation phase (or post-ovulation) was a punishment for ignoring my fertile eggs while having a stable and loving partner. I feel like in a constant ovulation phase. Does this make sense to you? Your work is so inspiring and helpful. Thanks so much. My best, Elvira |

Dear Elvira First of all congratulations on your pregnancy and I am so glad you are having such a wonderful experience! I think many women like you view the pre-menstrual phase as an intensely negative phase due to the symptoms experienced (I write this as a woman who has had her fair share of PMS!). The pre-menstrual phase is actually a blessing and when managed is an incredibly powerful and positive force in a woman’s life! When we go through our cycles Nature sets us up with different energies and abilities to best serve our species. For example in the menstrual phase our bodies detox and we slow down physically and mentally to restore our energies for the next new cycle. In the pre-ovulation phase we emerge with new dynamic physical and mental energies, giving us the get up and go to start projects, make things happen and realise our goals. In the ovulation phase our energies soften to nurturing and our skills at relationships and communication increase, helping us to find a partner and start a family. If our creative energy is not used for making a child it is released to us in a ‘whoosh’ in the pre-menstrual phase. Nature gives us the opportunity to touch deep within our sub conscious to bring out inspired ideas, to recognise patterns and connections, and it gives us the dynamic energy to manifest these inspirations and ideas in the physical world. In this phase women are the inventors, not only of the domestic skills of the past but also of community and culture. Those women who become pregnant create the next generation, those who don’t, create the community and culture that generation will live in. PMS is a blessing in disguise! One of the reasons many women have such a hard time with PMS is the stress of modern culture, which suggests that women are or should be like men. When we discover our cyclic nature, understand our changing abilities and perspectives, and interact with them in a practical way in our lives, we then express our true nature as women. You are right that at the moment you are in your ovulation phase energies, but remember that when you have your child your body will, naturally and in its own time, go through the pre-menstrual and menstrual energies to prepare you for ovulation again. There can be a tendency to hang on to the ovulation energies, because they feel so good, but if we did we would miss out on all the extra skills and abilities Nature gives us with which to provide for our children. When she gave us the cycle she gave us not only the ability to create children, but the ability to look after them and create the culture for them to grow and thrive in. I hope this helps and you enjoy the wonderful journey of exploring your cycle and how it helps you as a mother. Miranda |

Dear Miranda, Thanks for such an insightful answer. It definitely will help me as a mother, and more important, it will help me to influence my close environment. As women we should spread awareness of the menstrual cycle and a deeper understanding of our female energy and power. I feel surrounded by too many women that unnecessary suffer. Thanks again for having a web page with free information, a forum, and tools like the Moon Dial. You kept me thinking on how to accommodate and integrate the female cycle on modern culture to have a larger influence... Love and Light, Elvira |
