Message:   I was coming home in my Metro today - the pickup is sitting in the driveway with an empty tank, gas shortage here in Atlanta, gasoline in the Metro contains leaded gas (race car is drained after each use) - and had a problem.

The car started making a sound when I turned the steering wheel. Then all the time. Then braking became weird. All this over about 3 minutes. I pulled over and ALL FOUR lug nuts on the left front wheel were loose to the point of only a few threads holding them on. Huh. Tightened, drove exactly 1.5 miles more, to my mailbox. Weird AGAIN, checked. Lug nuts AGAIN at the end of the studs. Tightened even tighter, drove 0.9 miles home, lug nuts still tight.

Now the studs are dished near the base, so I assume they have been worn by the wheel. So, I guess that I need four new studs. It looks like I have to remove the hub to get the studs out. Is this right? Studs available at NAPA, or do I need to mail order them?

Very strange how fast the lug nuts loosened themselves, I've never heard of this before.

Chris
