Obama Speech Stage Resembles Ancient Greek Temple

DENVER (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos' National Football League team plays.

Some 80,000 supporters will see Obama appear from between plywood columns painted off-white, reminiscent of Washington's Capitol building or even the White House, to accept the party's nomination for president.

He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.

The show should provide a striking image for the millions of Americans watching on television as Obama delivers a speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

Politicians in past elections have typically spoken from the convention site itself, but the Obama campaign liked the idea of having their man speak to a larger, stadium-sized crowd not far from where the Democratic National Convention is being held, at the Denver pro basketball arena.

Obama was taking a page from the campaign book of John Kennedy in 1960 when the future president delivered his acceptance speech to 80,000 people in the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Once Obama speaks, confetti will rain down on him and fireworks will be fired off from locations around the stadium wall.

Democratic convention organizers said the theme for the evening is "Change We Can Believe In," which has been a consistent message of Obama's presidential campaign.

Oscar-winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson will sing the national anthem that night.

Jonathan, I wonder if this Greek Temple speech will be like a dress rehersal for Obama for when he walks into the Jewish Temple at some future time with his buddy the Anti-christ and they both add some new decor touchs to the golden alter;

I wonder if this Obama senses that he might have a more grandour mission than just being a typical politician?

He is really giving many the impression that he wants to be something more than just a U.S. President.

Re: Obama Speech Stage Resembles Ancient Greek Temple

I heard commentary on BBC news this morning that described the reaction to Obama as something very like (excuse me as I'm remembering now and the wording may not be 100%) "a roar that would sound throughout history" and other apocalyptic-type phrases. What is wrong with these people that they are so easily deluded? Or as I wrote in a poem once:

"America, America what made you turn so soon
Away from your Redeemer, towards the crescent moon?"

The Brittney spears 'essence' to this campaign can't seem to let go . . hmmmmm . .
~ ~
’We’ve done Britney’s sets and a whole bunch of rock stars, but this stage was far more elaborate and complicated and we had to do it in less time,’ said Bobby Allen, of designers RDA Entertainment.

Republican spokesman Danny Daz called the set -– designed by Britney Spears’ concert team -– ‘the Temple of Obama’ and observed sarcastically:

‘It’s only appropriate that Barack Obama would descend from the Heavens and spend a little time with us mere mortals".

Donna C. did you know that when Obama kept taking the roughdraft speech and making modifications on a few points, he was heard to have said when he returned it time and again to the speech writers?,

"Whoops! I Changed It Again!"

You have to admit my friend- that is a good one-is it not?
Is It Not? Said Cesear to the Roman councilate.

Sorry moderators! ever since I saw them Greek Temple collumms on Obama's Stage of Adacity, I find myself quoting shakesperean sonets and spouting off Roman Emporor type slogans.
