European running - September/ October

Hi folks

Myself and Brian were talking about running a race in Europe in either September/ October. We were thinking of no further than a half marathon.

The link below takes you to the AIMs website which lists all the International races this year

Brian - do you have any thoughts on which races you would like to do?

Re: European running - September/ October

Hi folks

Whilst I would loved to have done the Rio de Janerio half marathon, it clashes with the Stockley 5 and obviously my loyalty is to support our own race. The Budapest half marathon is also on this weekend as well.

The Tallin half in Estonia takes place on Sunday 23rd September. If you were to fly out Friday and return Monday, then flight and Hotel is 170 pounds from Gatwick (admittly Estonian Airways)on Last minute.com

If anyone is interested, I should be down the club a week on Wednesday or at the Elmbridge 10k this Sunday

Re: European running - September/ October

If you are looking for an oversea's run, then I can recommend the following two routes.

1 - The Uxbridge Road !! There is an Uxbridge Road on the other side of the world in a suburb of Auckland called Chowick. I ran this Uxbridge Road with my brother the other week and it has a hill similar to the one you run up just after the RAF Camp, the only difference is that when you run down this version of the Uxbridge Road, you end up on a rather nice beach. Not quite the same as running into Uxbridge.

2. There is a wonderful run where I am staying at the moment along the Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas. It is virtually deserted and very dramatic as there are many coconut trees almost reaching the sea. You do have to stop about 100 yards from the end of the beach though, as there are man eating crocs in the river at the end.
