I agree with Dick's remarks. I have an LP Onan 6.3 generator
and have had no trouble with the Gen. I have a 39 gallon LP
tank and between the ref. hot water htr, furnace and stove
top it could use up a lot of LP fast. I would rather have a
Onan Diesel gen. But thats what you sometimes get when you
get an entry level. Good Luck

Replying to: I have a friend who owns a 95 Allegro Bus with a propane generator. The gen works great - he has no complaints. But in the Winter when he goes to football games his propane usage is enormous. He can't boondock for long either. My humble opinion is that your generator should use the same fuel as your coach engine. Our diesel pusher has a nice 7500 watt Onan diesel generator. Others may have a different idea.

Replying to: Just wanted to get some opinions on propane generators. I was looking at a 1997 Discovery non slide with 44,000 miles well equipped but with propane gen. I couldn't tell if there was a seperate tank for the propane or not. Talking to a gen repair store the usage of propane weemed to be similar to diesel under 50% load. Would it be wise to avoid propane ? I would anticipate some boondocking and dry camping in my usage. We do not currently own a motorhome but a checking things out. Want to stick with diesel pushers for ride, handling, brakeing etc. Thanks. |
