2nd Annual Parker Palermo Memorial 5K Run/Walk
The King’s College Cross Country Team is hosting the 2nd Annual Parker Palermo Memorial 5K Run/Walk in Kirby Park on Sunday August 3, 2008 @ 10:00am. Parker a King's Alumni and former Cross Country Runner at King's who passed away suddenly on September 11, 2006. Proceeds are benefiting 4 Paws Spay & Neuter Program in Wilkes-Barre. Last year, we raised over $2,300.00 for 4 Paws. For pre-registered runners, there will be a pasta dinner on Saturday August 2nd from 5:00pm until 7:00pm in the 3rd floor of the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center at King’s College. Parker was from Spencerport, New York and a 2003 graduate of King’s College. He participated in Cross Country for three seasons at King’s. Parker was an avid runner. He completed his first marathon, the Reckson Long Island Marathon May 7, 2006. Parker worked at the Plains Animal Hospital as a Vet-Tech, with hopes of going to Veterinary School. Parker had a love for animals, often fostering numerous cats, dogs, and even a lamb until he found a good home for them. On behalf of the King’s College Cross Country team, I would like to thank you for your help with our cause. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Your children are certainly welcome. If you would like to bring your children to the pasta dinner and they are not running, $5.00 each would help cover our costs. $10.00 total. If anyone who is pre-registered or will pre-register at the dinner and would like to bring a guest, please send me an email. We will certainly accomodate you. Thank you. mkolinov@kings.edu |

In case it's a concern: On Sunday there's also a two mile juvenile diabetes benefit walk starting at the same time as the King's event. Their registration and start will be held at the Martz pavilion, but there's information about the walk's course. |

http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=223601 I posted the course map online. A description is below. If you ran last year, it is the same course. Starts near the tennis courts. Start is similar to the Cliff Robbins high school run. Follow the grass out to the pond, loop the duck pond. Then, once on the concrete, follow it back towards the tennis courts. Go up the hill by the courts, then take the **** towards Market Street Bridge. At the beginning of the ***** we will give 1 mile splits. At the end of the ***** go down the hill and make a left back onto the grass. Follow the grass along the **** towards the tennis courts. Once you arrive near the tennis courts, you will have reached the 2 mile. Make a right turn and follow the concrete back towards the pavillion and up onto the **** again. Follow the **** out towards the tennis courts, go down the hill to the finish. |

Some of my last post was blocked. You probably understand what I was trying to convey. Just replace **** with the grass hill. Sorry! |

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to a few people who helped us raise over $2,000 for a group who needed it. Chris Wadas & Justin Sandy - thanks again for the help at the finish line. Mike - Thanks for posting event information and results. Tom Nallon - thanks for riding the bike after doing your part of the triathlon. Thanks to everyone who participated. We again had over 100 registered runners/walkers. Hope you will all be back next year. Mike Kolinovsky |
