2nd annual Herbie's Hometown Loop
To all my NEPA running friends: As we passed the 1 year anniversary of the Virginia Tech tragedy (4/16/08), much fear, hurt, pain, sorrow, and despair remained. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about Jeremy Herbstritt and his family. I can not and will not forget the events of that day spent with the Herbstritts. This world is full of many tragedies and painful events. "We can choose to live in fear, despair, and darkness, or we can choose to learn from Jeremy's example and "live" - not afraid to try new places or new things. A runner who loved the journey, never tired of the repetitive, and refused to quit. And when things got tough, he found a way to make the best out of it." Jeremy loved the outdoors and sharing it with anyone within earshot. We plan to share it each year with his spirit and the community in which he was so "actively" involved throughout his 27 yrs. The 2nd Annual Herbie's Home Town Loop (8/16/08) is a 4 Mile Run/Walk, 16 mile non-competitive bike ride and 2 mile kayak/canoe ride (advanced registration required for this part of the day's events). The race is competitive and starts at 8:30 AM. The bike ride is a fun loop around Bellefonte starting at 10:30 AM. The kayak/canoe run requires advanced registration. It starts at 1:30 PM from Tussey Outfitters in Bellefonte and finishes in Curtin Village. In addition, there is a kid's bike event, kid's games/activities, live entertainment, refreshments.....For more information/application: http://herbiehtl.googlepages.com Thank you to all that participated in our inagural event last year. All proceeds go to the Jeremy Herbstritt Memorial fund. The Herbstritt family has decided the funds from this event, as well as, the PSU event held in the Spring will be used toward a community track in Bellefonte. Happy Running!
