Wilkes-Barre Triathlon
If anyone is interested in doing the run portion of the wilkes-barre triathlon on a relay team. Please let me know tnallon@yahoo.com. The run is approximately 7 miles, abiltiy level doesn't matter. Just looking for someone that wants to have a good time and compete. The registration for the even would be paid the only thing there is a $10.00 fee for a one day USA Triathlon license that would need to be paid by who ever was interested. Let me know as soon as possible. Thank you |

Hey Mike, the race actually starts at 7:30 this year. Not 8:00. Some people might be going by what you have listed in your calendar as to what the information is. It's not your fault, because these things change from year to year. I know with the St. Patrick's Day parade 2 mi. run the wrong information was on the site about where the start was, and I showed up at the half way point wondering where all the runners were. I looked pretty silly doing agilities in the streets all by myself

Thanks Nate for letting me know, I have corrected the time. I didn't hear anything about the St. Patricks day race. Usually when I post listing, I rely on the RD to double chek the info. I will have to check more on that. I know the starting line wasn't near the registration area the area I had the map to. |

Tom, great to see you found a runner so fastand with only a couple of days to go.... Nate, it bothered me a bit knowing I had the wrong info posted on the Brian Kelley Mmeorial run,one reason to try to avoid it from happening again. Here is what happened. The info was originally posted early, the race was then shortened from a 3 miler to a 2 miler and the starting line was moved and the change got by me. |

Didn't want to start a new thread... Two runners (Randy White and Nathan Zondlo) wore GPS units and clocked the run at 7.2 miles, well over the advertised 11K. Just wanted to mention the distance if anybody was wondering, all of the paces are faster than what is posted. |

Yeah I'm kind of disappointed to see the course off by such a huge margin. |

You would think that this event was USTAF certified but apparently not. I just checked the website and see no mention of any certification. Here were complaining when a 5k is off. |

I thought the race course was the same as in years past, so then has it always been longer than advertised?

I gmap'd it here at 7.05 miles (11.35km): http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2139251 It's possible that I missed some distance by mapping it while zoomed out further, I wasn't trying to get the exact distance, that would take too long. Even so, 11.35km is still way over the 11km mark, and 7.2 would be even further. I'm just going to log it as 7.2 in my books. |

The course has always been longer than advertised. I used my old reliable Google Earth and it came out just a hair over 7.0 miles. I drove it a few years ago and it came out to 7.1 miles. I use 7.0 to calculate my pace on this course. |

Ah, well that's encouraging because my run time was really slow . . . well actually with the 7.2 miles it would still probably be slow . . . ah well |

Everyone concerned should contact the lady that heads up the WB triathalon. Joanne Gensel is the director. 822-2025 or 270-4793. If enough people throw a fuss maybe they will make it a serious race that's certified. |

They had the 7 mile marker out around the first bend, from there it's more than a tenth/mile to the finish. So, 7.2 sounds the closest in distance. I ran the course for a workout during the event. A team called me on Thursday and the runner said he was hurt and would I run for them. I said sure, I'm available and I registered on Sat., thought I was set. Meanwhile the teams biker called someone on Tuesday and asked them to run for the team and he accepted. The teams biker and runner never told either what they did, so of course, both of us fill-in runners show up that morning to run. Since, the other runner was asked before I was, I had to yield to him. Anyway, still had a good time, weather was great. Chris flew by me, then paused to talk. He would've run faster than his 39 minutes otherwise. Great job to all yesterday, especially Con McCole!

Nate, what did you guys do to get a 2:00 penalty. You would have won wihtout it. |

Their biker didn't dismount in time at the exchange zone. They also had a penalty last year from the biker staying in the left lane for too long. Both incidents had their arguments. This year it was that the officials weren't telling the bikers to dismount at the zone until after Nate's team got the penalty. The previous year I think the incident involved the biker being behind lots of other slower bikers and he was passing them quickly, which is why he stayed in the left lane for lengths of time. However, the rules state you can only be in the left lane for 15 seconds max while trying to pass someone and then you must go back into the right lane. So instead of swerving in and out he just stayed to the left. That's just what I heard, whatever really went down, I'm not sure of. They both seem like honest mistakes though, and a 2:00 penalty is pretty rough, but they're the rules. Last year I think they would have won if they didn't get a penalty as well. |

yeah I'm starting to get used to getting shafted on silly technicalities and bureauocracies. But I can't say I had anything to do with it. I still ran the same race I would have even if it was just a foot race instead of a triathlon. My time should be :45-1:00 less than what it is posted in the results. Around mile 5 I slowed down dramatically and even stopped for a long period because of such a bad stitch in my side. Never felt anything like that before. I'm happy I was able to finally push through it and it went away enough that I could get back up to pace. |

regardless of those shortcomings. I still had a lot of fun. It was nice to see and talk to everyone and watch amazing athletes post great times. Did you see the kid that won overall again's split times? 19 years old and going pro already. I look forward to telling people in the future, "Yeah, I competed in a Tri with the guy that won the Iron Man" Also, Waz proved how many miles ahead of the rest of us he is right now. (literally) I look forward to racing against you in peak shape. HEAD TO HEAD. How about the St. Patrick's day 2 miler? We'll do battle there.
