Re: who collects soda cans as well I DO I DO!

Now HERE'S a thread after my own heart. I can pretty much cut and paste Scott's previous post about how I got started saving pop cans. Sometimes it's just nice to bring something home. I'm hooked to the point now where I don't really care what I'm digging, soda/beer, it's all equally fun for me.
The thing I find to be so much fun with the soda cans is all the different flavors and colors. With beer cans you'll find a Beer and then sometimes the matching Ale in a different color scheme. With the pop cans you can dig 5-10 flavors all in different colors. It really does make for a colorful display (and it's also easy do dig "shelfers") Add variations in to the mix and the possibilities are endless.
So far I only keep what I personally find so thing don't get out of control but I must be up around 150-200 different cans and find new ones every time I go digging. My particular fetish is the Penguin brand sold by the Grand Union stores (some even have the same logo as the Rialto's and Gilt Edge Beer and Ale cans). I've gone as far as putting together a spread sheet of all variations that I'm aware of and came up with 96 possible variations so far (12 diff cans in 8 diff flavors). A couple of my dumping partners think I'm nuts but they're slowly coming around to the dark side. Don't say anything to them but I think at least one of 'em is hooked already and the other is not far behind.
As far as web sites go here's a couple more pretty good ones: http://www.canconnection.com/ http://www.usasoda.com/

Here's some pretty cool ones I found this past fall. The two center Penguin Colas are paint-overs (actually all 4 of the enamel Penguin Colas are paintover but I only rubbed the center two).

Certainly not the best rubout job ever but it was my first attempt.

Re: who collects soda cans as well

I think I'm gonna start collecting them now too. I got a few old cokes. I have been bringing home painted label soda bottles as well.

Re: who collects soda cans as well

Ah c'mon Scott, get your mind out of the gutter!

Maybe I should clarify since that did make me sound like a freak. I have a fetish for Penguin CANS. Oh wait, that sounds even freakier. Ah, just forget I said anything.

Re: who collects soda cans as well

Hey Dan, I really like the shrimp can. Stinky shrimp is the best! If I had more than one I'd send one your way, but that was the only one I found. -Mike

Re: who collects soda cans as well

hey beercanman, just follow us on our next dump trip, as we or maybe just rustmonger will be diggin feverishly in this huge pre-zip code soda dump, you can just go ahead of us and there you will find 30's cans ...the penquins are cool, but i think i find myself liking the cans that represent history or nostalgia, like coke, pepsi, dr pepper and such..also the ones with some graphics are obviuosly cool, shastas, donald ducks, while some are quite boring, guess its just like everything else in life....kb
