"B" bracket predictions for state tournie in College Station

B Division

Ahhhh, a refreshing new year for a new winner and possibly a completely different set of Top 4 finishers. The B division has finally incurred some disparity and 1-15 could win this year with a lot of great matchups destined to happen by Round 3. Every year we get to see some old time friends and favorites in this bracket and this year won’t be any different. Watch for some great games and some early blowouts, but a lot of experience of how to play the game as you get older.

Top 10

Austin Tip Drill: Has to be the favorite, finishing in the Top 4 at least three times in last 5 years. Their quarterback makes this team go. Their opponents will have to defend all over the field by stopping the lead snap, side snap, and their pitch game. Not the strongest defense but when you score a lot of points, who needs great defense??

Tuna Can Jones: Always do well in tourneys, but every year in State they disappear. This will be there year to perform and show what they are truly capable of doing. They have some very good playmakers and guys who know the game of flag on defense. Look for them to slip into the Top 4.

All Madden: A team who usually plays A now steps down to B this year in order to gel as a team. Must defend the 5-yard pbutt and dump offs. Beware because you won’t have many possessions against this ball control offense.

Clutch: The second best team out of DFW will be looking to make some noise in their first ever State tourney as a team. They must figure out how to play defense and find some leadership in the crunch. Offense is their strength and don’t be fooled by the knee braces of the quarterback, he can roll!

Afterburners: Team is led by Ken who has been moonlighting for Storm at quarterback is back at home with his system and receivers. They are a very good team with a bunch of guys who just come and play and will use every play known in flag football. They know this game and lessons will be taught in every game if you haven’t ever played them.

Not For Hire: Placed 4th last year but has a very new team this year and placing in the Top 10 would be a serious accomplishment.

Richardson Dawgs: If they can withstand all the games and win their first 3, they will be hard to beat on Sunday. Welcome back Eddie Colvin.

Team Pub Fiction: They could have one of the best defenses in the B Division and they will need it all. They are breaking in a new Qb and the question is will they gel soon enough for the offense to come to life??

Round Rock Turbo: Danny is still there, so a Top 10 finish, enough said.

Odessa Aftershock: One of the younger teams that play at a high level, they have a very good offense and are a threat to score on any play. If they bring some defense this weekend, watch out!

Others to watch

Grapevine Vipers: Seasoned team that has a solid offense but will struggle with the more athletic teams.

Team Ice Cream: A new team, who routinely performs well in DFW, could be 0-2 or finish Top 4.

Lackland AFB Warhawks: They have improved every year due to Culley’s diligence in recruiting and playing in tournaments and leagues.

Pick Lil Meat: Combo team from three DFW teams who placed in Top 20 last year in State.

Temple D Premium: They are not new to this, but haven’t been playing lately as a team which could keep them out of the running for Sunday play.

Good luck to everyone except for Tuna Can Jones.
