Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

Seven Squirrels ran the RSPB Race for Wildlife 10K at the Sandy Lodge reserve this morning, a two-lapper taking in heathland and wooded areas and featuring a couple of tough uphills - we were a bit worried about the weather, but the blustery winds were not too bad apart from on a couple of exposed bits of the course. The sun even made a brief appearance at one point! This is a really nice, low-key event with lots of friendly and supportive marshals, I think everyone really enjoyed it.

I can't find any results for the event yet, but hopefully people can post their finishing times on here individually. Those taking part were:
Linda Aird (56:42)
Dave Braybrook (hope I've got the right Dave!)
Lucy O'Connor
Ian Sutcliffe
Andrew Porter
Lorna (sorry Lorna, I don't know your surname)
Brian Judkins

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

My time unofficially: 59.43 RSPB 10K

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

My time unofficially for the Sandy 10k was 58.02

I was really pleased with that, a tough course!

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

Yes it was a tough course and my unofficial time was 1hr 57sec

1h10m, it was tough, though being mostly in the woods we were sheltered from the gale that was blowing.

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

Tom Webb, Jim McConnel and Matt Sayers competed for Hertfordshire in the GB intercounties XC championship on an undulating and windswept 6.5 mile course at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough. The event was hosting the GB trials for the World XC championships in Aarhus and so there was a strong field and fantastic support including the loyal cow-bell ringing squirrels on tour (Mark Vaughan, John Auld and Ellie Webb).

Tom Webb - 194, 38:22
Jim McConnell - 213, 38:44
Matt Sayers - 263, 40:37

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

I took part in the Harpenden Half Marathon today in extremely tough conditions. It was cold, windy, hilly and VERY muddy!
I knew it would be a tough course and was hoping for sub 1.55, so was really pleased to finish in 1.51.48 💪💪
There was a rather unfortunate incident with a portaloo being blown over in the relentless wind resulting in the poor lady trapped inside being completely covered in unthinkable substances – luckily she was not injured and actually went on to finish first lady!

Hi

My unofficial time at The a RSPB Sandy 10k was 58:28.

I posted a team photo on the NHRR Facebook page.

Carly Bedwell also ran it. Her unofficial time from Strava was 1:19:55.

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

Hi Paula

Stewart Overton, Darren Sunter and Lee Hayes got the 1st train out of Hitchin this morning to take park in the Big Half in London.

Wet and extremely windy beforehand we all fared well and ran times of:

Darren Sunter : 1:13:46

Stewart Overton : 1:17:30

Lee Hayes : 1:26:45

The course takes in a lot of the London marathon route backwards so has plenty of support on course to keep the effort levels honest and a fast finish followed by a well earned beer in the Greenwich arms afterwards.

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

Cambridge Boundary for me. Why oh why did I enter it again??? I have now run it 5 times and never enjoyed it and today was made worse by my having a cold (pull yourself together woman it's only a cold...), I was frozen for the first 20 miles, my forehead and nose felt like they were in a vice, I couldn't speak to anyone for fear of coughing and then there was the wind! OMG THE WIND!!! Very relieved to finish in 4.35 but feeling rather pathetic for struggling so much!

My first 10K, Sandy RSPB, unofficial time 1 hr 7 mins. I’m happy with that for such a hilly course and my first 10K. Should set me up for MK 10K next week.

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

I think mine was 1 hr 7 mins

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

In case they don’t get a chance to post in time Ally Blunt, Lisa Laundy & Keith (sorry don’t know surname) ran the London Vitality Half. A first HM for for Lisa & Keith who were raising money for MacMillan. The three of them crossed the line together in 2:23:59.

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

Lorna’s surname is Chambers who ran the RSPB 10k as per Linda’s post.

Re: Press Report for Week Ending Sunday 10th March

I ran the Hillingdon 20 miler today (was the Finchley 20 previously). Didn’t race it, just ran it as a long run (and why would you want to race a 20 miler?!), but finished in 2:44:17 so very happy considering both the gale force winds, hail, and the fact that I’ve only started “properly” running again recently. The course was changed this year and was a bit of a dog leg through housing estates- 4 loops. Unfortunately all the uphills were into the wind! But as Karen says (and what went through my head the whole time) is hills make us strong!
