Brilliant point, Adrian. And you're right. A Thirst For Rain is mainly about identity. I think where everyone suffered most is in their need to feel as if they were of value. That's why Myra and Odile slept around, and that's why Rory stayed so close to his little chicken. Everybody needs to be loved. Good call!

Everybody's is talking about all the hidden meanings and morals this book is giving out and they are all wrong. I know what it is about, THE NEED TO FEEL SPECIAL a woman's most powerful need and that was definitely the authors intent. Almost all the characters in the book even the male ones where in some way rejected or made not to feel important and that's what everyone was searching for especially Myra and Odile. Ya Feel me! a wonderful novel.
