I think your idea is a good one, it will bring more TG11 guys into our wierd and wonderful world of siggies, not just ex Gannites. Its amazing where you find the "odd" siggie. I was at the local beer festival last week, and bumped into an ex siggie there, she seemed quite normal, but as I was ****** at the time, everybody seemed normal to me!
Hope to see more guys at the next reunion, I think Jerry is organising one for November in Nottingham, unfortunately I cant go to that one, but next year seems to be on the cards as well, looking forward to that already. All the best to all Gannites, Willie.
Tony - you must have been at Tengah same time as myself and Llew Bridgnell (he came across from Seletar, guitar and all)- I was there 68/71
Tony S/Willy - Couldn't make Blackpool as I had another reunion just after it and get's a bit expensive if they are to close together, didn't realise there were so few of you there. I spoke to Llew a couple of days ago and he sent me two pixs with yourselves and Gordon Fisher on plus a few others that I can't put a name to - would like to see any others you have.
Good morning Setch,
I take your comments on our small get together in the way they were intended, the pink gins were great, by the way, as were the Pimms, the cocktails etc. The thing that really made the weekend were the waiters in the pink tu-tu's, with matching tops, with SASF tattooed across their chests! Cheers for now, Willie.
hi taff i have a vague memory of you on gan. i was on shift 'b' watch with nobby shipperley he's currently a civvy at stafford speak to him occasionaly, also on my watch cpl brian 'hodgy' hodgson, i think he's in
the scarborough area. also remember ian renfrew, simon
williams. i have just come across some photographs that i will try and sort out for the sight. i have nobby the legend shipperley and brian hodgy. and whilst on the net today i have also found the old ''notice of repatriation from gan '' message the one that starts 'in a short while the above named airman will be returning in your midst dehydrated and demoralised etc etc......will put this on to the sight as well. sorry couldnot make any of the reunions work commitments. i myself have stayed in a military envireonment after leaving the raf and have worked at raf valley for m.o.d, then for brown root marshall and now for babcock defence service. this is a brilliant sight set up by alistair keep up the good work taff, all the best
They were not SAS fairies in pink tu-tu's as you thought in your alcohol induced state but SASF moonies working hard in the noon day sun. No lovely air-conditioned office for us--just the searing heat.
I have decided not to have a go at siggies any more, even on their national day of April 1. You exacted your revenge on me last Friday, as I was going to work, when I totalled my Beamer, old but running well.
Still had a day off work because of it so not all was lost.
Many thanks for your grovelling reply, slightly tongue firmly in cheek I think, I dont think for a moment that you will ever give up on the Siggie baiting, after all, what else is there for you to do on the long, cold afternoons in the Shady Pines eventide home for the terminally incontinent?
Yep, you were right about the alcoholic haze, this was brought about by too many pints of Pimms, and cocktails. Looking forward to next year, Belfast looks like the venue, tin hats and 303's at the ready. There seems to be another reunion planned for 2005 in Great Yarmouth, we shall see what transpires.
Right, it seems like it's time for your cocoa and Viagra (POSB of course) so I will close, and go to the pub, it's right downstairs in the fridge,
All the best my friend, until next time........................................
Siggie baiting just a little fun but I really did write my beamer off last Friday.
I pulled out from an intersection not realising a car was on my right(I was thinking about going for a pint with Framer in Harpenden that lunch time). He pushed me through 90 degrees & he ended up 100 yards down the road on the wrong side. Completely totalled the front end. Had it been a second later it would have been in my side door & a lot more serious.
So this w/e I shall be searching for another 3 series or Merc 190 for about a grand. I don't pay much for cars because of incidents like this.
Any offers from anyone?
Anyway being incontinent has its good points as I never get filled up as it goes in one end & straight out the other. You'll find out in the not too distant future. Great eh!!!!!
Is this a siggies reunion in 2005 or another one for all?
Good afternoon gentlemen, and you too Setch!
A quick one before I'm off to sunny Cyprus to enjoy the cold beer and warm sand, ah well, the beer anyway.
It seems that it's just me and Setch posting anything on the notice board, after a good start it's fallen away again, so come on siggies (and SASF) lets get this going again! The reunion next year is for all, but Siggies are having another in Belfast, courtesy of Jerry, so hope a few more than last time turn up.
Hope to see something new on the board when I get back, All the best to you all, Willie.
PS Hope your new Reliant Robin is working OK,Setch!!
I am very surprised to read that you still have quick ones. At our age they should be long, slow & very enjoyable.
The Mercedes I was hoping to get is not for sale yet so in a rush I bought a Reliant Robin & have cleverly disguised it as an H reg Audi 100 Avant 2. You cannot even see the joins. So I know have a big red one! What do you say to that?
There have been no bad reports eminating from Cyprus so I guess you must be behaving your self like a good little siggie. Hope you had a good one.
Don't seem to be much chat on your page, so I thought I would give you all someone else to talk about!!!!
I served on 'A' Watch (I think) in the Relay Commcen (tape ape)1974-1975. I think a TG11 website would be a great idea. Also can anyone remember when the Comediens came as part of the CSE show??
yes i remember the comedians coming to gan in 75 had a drink with irishman frank carson " its the way i tell em " in the marine bar. seem to remember him telling me what a brilliant place it was and commenting on all the knickers hanging around the ceiling and walls, along with all the other bits and pieces of memorabilia. siggy siggy siggy ...., ....
.... the wife has just looked over my shoulder wondering what on earth i have just typed some things best kept to ones mispent youth.
Hi Jeff, were we on the same course at Cosford, TPO152??
I met Bernard Manning a few years after this when I was at St Mawgan, his brother owned a nightclub in Newquay, his brother was about to throw us out of the night club (because we were laughing too much!!!) when Bernard saw the watch cover that I had from Gan, so we started talking about Gan, and he said how much he enjoyed his visit,he bought us a few beers and told his brother to F~#k off and leave us alone, Good Bloke, Bernard Manning.
Hi Tony Davies, I still can't put a face to your name but we seem to have crossed paths a couple of times, , , , , Singapore JATCC 66 to 68 ,,,,, Gan 70 to 71 and again for a months detachment later on in 71. Drop me a line anytime it will be great to have a yarn ,,,,,,,,,,, I am living part time in Scarborough (with the job,,,, MOD Police)(I know strange isn't it) but my home and family (Wife, three daughters and two grand-daughters)all live in Telford, Shropshire. I joined the RAF with Jock Dunlop in 1963 (long time ago)got to go back to work now so I will leave this now....................
Just found the page, sure I know Taff Small, I was on Gan as a Tape Ape from Feb to Dec 74. Think it would be great to have a TG11 site. Remember Norman Collier doing a CSE show and the laughter when someone did a donkey noise to his chicken impersonation!!!
Was TPO136 at Cosford if anyone there late 72??
Live in Kent now anyone else??
Well I guess that this slab of tiger beer has to be consumed by myself as you guys can't hack it any more.
Well enjoying meself down under and just thinking back to the turmoil that we suffered over there with all that cheap booze and idle dayze and the occasional noise of those iron birds in the early hours of the mornings - plus the one handed hammer jammers of the one eyed knicker python brigade - you could never trust them ssaf types anyway !!!!
ZUJ QJB5 - Yamsing
Siggies Nov 68 to Nov 69 a really tough tour! when it was 12 months! Siggies are not dead! just been hibernating since closure of Gan. I would love to see a siggies get together and of course we would have to include the techies if you all agree? I have been and am in touch with a few ex gannites a couple live within a few miles but one is ex rafp is he included?
I have the video Lonely Men of Coral Command but not seen geordies movie after his holiday.
Be nice to hear from anyone from the Gan era
I know it appears I am on every page of this site, but please excuse me, I just cannot understand why this site is not flying along like other sites to do with ex servicemen, tis a brilliant site and as far as siggies are concerned Why dont you come along to the reunion in Norfolk and meet everyone else who was on Gan
Well siggies, why not join us MCU W.....S at Potters in April 2005 and get together for a fantastic weekend and instead of all this on line chatter sit and talk while you watch us Mariners drink the place dry.
I have just got back after 2 weeks on Gan. No damage whatsoever. Very lucky indeed unlike some of the other islands in the North Male.
The place is going down the "nick", but the memories are still as strong as ever. I think that too many people think that it is expensive going back, but you can get good deals on flights, and the accommodation is reasonable at $140 per room all inclusive.
Not many ex Gannites have been back, about 65 at the last count, but perhaps a reunion on Gan in 2006, 30 years after we sailed away, might not be a bad idea ?? On Gan of course. Suggestions ??
they finally let you out of the pub. I was told by a very reliable contact that they weren't going to let you go home until you'd bought a drink, they must have got p*ss*d off waiting.
SUBJECT 1 - Brains:-
Now what's this bo**ocks about taking brains out of wrappers, I take it we're talking about a siggie brain and one can't help but wonder where one would find enough siggie grey matter to warrant the trouble of wrapping it in the first place. I suppose at this time of the year one could pilfer the little box that the old girl's earings
( "oh, earings, how nice and how imaginative - again" SARKY COW ) came in but you'd have to put a fair amount of packing in there to stop it rattling around.
Having said that, I'm told that siggie brains are valued at £1 million an ounce, probably has something to do with the fact that you've got to slaughter thounsands of the b**t**ds to put together an ounce of brain.
SUBJECT 2 - SASF Drinking:-
Summed up in the fourth word of the last paragraph.
Have you spotted me in the Street yet Willie - two appearances down and one to go. Judging by the lack of feed back I'm getting I'll to have to give you all a clue, either that or drink the fifty quid myself.
IN ONE SESSION!!!
Have been enjoying reading some of your messages. Some of you I know and others I only know by reputation (the infamous Nobby Shipley springs to mind). I doubt if many will remember me as I spent more hours in the studios of Radio Gan than the bars but I do have many happy memories of Gan itself and if I have got my new liver by then to attend a 30 year anniversary would be great.
Nice to hear than someone understands if not appreciates my 'wind-ups', it's amazing how many people get the 'ump at my little digs, especially our master of the web, he seems to get an s-h-one-double t-y on regularly with my postings. I've even been accused of being a hijacker(same as a lowjacker but you do it standing up) or so I'm told.
When were you on Gan, which section, what type of music did you spin on your DJ spots and what kind of an excuse are you going to come up with for not frequenting the numerous drinking establishments on Gan, especially the universally famous Marine Bar.
Don't tell me, you were saving to get married.
A reletively new type of virus has been released that can have a devastating effect forums and message boards such as this one. With the advances of artificial intelligence this virus takes on an almost human like personality and can disrupt or at worse, wreck a site like this. The virus first appeared with the Code name 'ADAM'. This type of virus learns from the responses to it's taunts. It also has a self protective mechanism which causes it to over-react when challenged by one of it's victims by using rude words and insults etc. The favourite trick of this virus is to mutate and change its identity when when cornered. The 'ADAM' virus was forced to do this and became the 'CONFUSED' virus. It is believed that this virus was initiated by a spotty, hooded, loftbound teenager, himself called Adam.
I suspect that once the virus has detected this entry it will react in one of three ways - it will either lay low for a few days or will launch an all-out attack or even mutate once again -- let's wait and see.
I visit this site every single day (unless I'm on holiday) and it really sickens me to see the lack of postings. I know a lot of people visit this site, but they don't post!
I felt like posting earlier on today a new subject with the title of "Come back Confused, all is forgiven" at least the guy got people posting on this site, if only to have a go back at him.
Most of it was only harmless RAF jibes, which we are all guilty of over the years. And some of them were quite amusing.
No one is posting any more, why?
Come on guys, get posting, or I'll put an advert in "The Times" asking him to come back and wind everyone up again!!
You don't have to put an advert in the times my old mate. I'm never very far away!
See you lot are still dribbling on here then?
I'll be back full time in the near future, have been rather busy, so more time on my hands for siggie baiting!
AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! It's 'Im!! To quote and old comic strip character, Jonah, from, I think, The Dandy/beano. Are you still a spare part, I mean, an extra, in Coronation Street?
