Re: Siggies

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Re: Siggies

Gotcha Wullie!!!!

Look at my IP address and then look at "confused" IP address.

na na na na na!!!
Thought I would put it on to generate a bit of comment

Re: Siggies

YOUR BUSTED CONFUSED OR SHOULD WE SAY SIRRELL

Re: Siggies

G'day there Shyrlee,
My father was a navigator on 81 sqn at Tengah 59/61

Re: Siggies

Hi Studmuffin
Your father served in an Australian Squadron. My husband was 41 Squadron RNZAF

Re: Siggies

Right, Mr. Confused, that's you off my bar bill in LB!!!!

Re: Siggies

I knew Studmuffin when he used to be just a stud but that was a long long time ago. Time and drink have shrunk everything he holds dear. And believe me dear, hes been holding it for a long time. !!!

As for confused. He always was, always will be and in fact without the medication, would have long since drifted into complete non sensory function mode !!!!

Re: Siggies

Firstly I am a little late but would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
And would now like to tell you about the mistake I made. As I said earlier I write a Newsletter for our Air Cadets and to make the pages look interesting I like adding wee cartoon pictures of aircraft, which down here we call 'siggies'
I googled the RAF asking for RAF siggies and got into your Website. Now I think your meaning of 'siggies' is that your are 'signallers

I am thoughly enjoying reading your letters on the Message Board and hope you won't throw me out.
You might like to know something about our Cadets who
one day we hope will all become Airmen and then once again we will have a decent Air Force.

Shyrlee (Coastalskipper)

Re: Siggies

It seems that most of the blokes on here are Siggies, there are a few other hangers on, but without the Siggies there would be nothing to talk about anyway!!
After all when it comes to talking why not call in the experts.
Now I'll just sit back quietly and see what comments appear.

Re: Siggies

Not at all Shyrlee, all are most welcome here, it's nice to have new people post on our little site. It makes for new topics of conversation, instead of just having us Siggies rabbiting on.

Re: Siggies

Thank you Willie Dunlop for your warm welcome.

Shyrlee

Re: Siggies

My pleasure, and, I'm sure I echo all of us when I say welcome. Some of the lads are a bit shy in female company. Aint that right, lads?

Re: Siggies

Thankyou Willie, I will try and be polite amongst the shy boys

Re: Siggies

Al Kent

The reason why us so-called 'hangers-on' do not post much is because of inebriate, inane and ignorant comments such as yours.

Re: Siggies

Pete, I think your comment was a bit rude!
I am certainly not inebriate at six in the morning. Some of the entries are a bit (as you put it) inane, but it had the desired effect and generated a response.

If you look at the header of this topic it will explain a lot. A bit of banter goes a long way these days and it is still a way to keep in touch with old friends.

If you want serious and depressing, I suggest you pick up a daily paper. You can get as much as you like in there.

If you put a serious entry on the site, you will get a responsible answer. This segment is just a bit of fun!

Lighten up, days to do are getting few(er)!

Re: Siggies

Come on Pete - you don't have to pretend to be a dick head - we all know now that you are one

Re: Siggies

Tony i'm sure you are aware that 6am is not the most common time for posts. Personally at that time i'm catching up on my beauty sleep. If I might say, you are being rather hypocritical considering some of your own posts on another well known forum. My original post was in response to Al's post which was both derogatory and insulting to ALL other trades who visit this great site. It would be a shame if it became the inclusive home of siggies. As for stuffamuffin's post I will not deign to comment.

Re: Siggies

How to bring down the humour on this (and other) sites in one easy lesson.
1) Read the previous post!
2) Errmm! That's it.
Sorry you dont seem to have a sense of humour.

Re: Siggies

The whole idea of my little dit was to get something happening, but it didnt turn out as I had hoped. I did not intend to be derogatory or insulting to any of the guys who served on Gan, we all stood under the same sun, and missed home equally. All trades working together.
As for me being inane, inept and inebriated, yes I have been all three, but not all at the same time, not recently anyway.
If I have offended any one, then I am sorry.
As the song says in the "Life of Brian"
'Always look on the bright side of life'

Re: Siggies

Please accept my apologies, Al. What I said was sent in a fit of anger, and I didn't think enough about what I said. As you say, we all stood under the same sun.

Re: Siggies

Al thank you for your gracious apology which is accepted unconditionally. Let's hope that this matter can now be put to bed. As you say 'always look on the bright side of life!'

Re: Siggies

I didn't know that there was a curfew on postings - EXCUSE ME

Re: Siggies

Besides the above - some of us are either shift workers or live in other parts of the world - have you ever considered this, as that would explain why someone would be posting at 0600 or 6AM to the unenlighted

Re: Siggies

Pete, my little dit above was also to generate some input and if any offence was caused, it was unintentional.
I realised Al's comment was inserted to draw comment and that is was it did along with mine.

And, you are right, I have posted some crap on different sites over the years, light hearted though (or most of it anyway!)

And as said above, we were all Gannites and shared the same sun!

p.s. to Stud Muffin. Keep the personal snipes out Ron, Dick Head etc.. Any more and you'll get the back of your legs slapped young man!!

Re: Siggies

I have been rumbled, so will will put the mask and cape back in the paper bag and mail it back to never never land.
My intention was also to generate interest, but it is always a siggie that bails out this site, if it wasn't for us SIGGIES - I think this site would not have survived this long.

Let's do the sums:-
600 blokes
1 TOUR (365 DAYS)
1960-1974 - 14Yrs

600 X 365 X 14 = 3066000

If that is correct - explain to me:-

1. Why is there about 10-20 that only post.
2. 5 or 6 may be siggies.
3. The remainder - read and reply
4. What happened to the remaining 3065980.
5. If we there is a reunion on Gan in 2010, would there be room for us all ??

Re: Siggies

Come on boys no fighting the war is over. You have a great Website here so don't lose touch with it.
Coastalskipper

Re: Siggies

Stud Muffin, in your mathmatical equation you ommitted those to whom a double tour was offered, could you please recalculate?

Re: Siggies

Ron, the time span was 1960-1976.
Also you forgot to deduct the amount of airmen that only did the cooks tour - 9 months.
And, the three months up to closure in March 76 is not a full year! And also people that did more than one tour.

Back to the drawing board!

But, I agree, it is an awful lot of people that have gone missing.

Re: Siggies

My heads hurting guys! Let's just say that we all enjoyed our 12/9 months in the sun, well, most of us did. I know I did. Looking forward to 2010.

Re: Siggies

It's OK Shyrlee, boys will be boys, even when they are old men !!!

It's what makes us so lovable.

Re: Siggies

That's correct, but we are grumpy old men!!

Re: Siggies

Thanks Al, I thought that was the case. Things never change with age.
Regards to all.....and behave

Re: Siggies

If I wanted to be really technical, I could of added the WVS woman and Fred the heron

Re: Siggies

hi there, yep serve in 6su 74/75, nobby shipley, was a good mate, cant think of any other names yet, but who knows

Re: Siggies

hi jeff,
I was on A watch, went to the same school as Nobby, saw him about 30 years ago, still at stafford then, he used to take the pee out of a guy called bigg edgar, I worked for the royal signals and then the MOD, and have retired early to SPAIN.
LOOKFORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU

adios

alan AKA BORIS

Re: Siggies

Boris!! a picture of your bespectabled head has jumped into my mind. If I remember rightly, your mum and my mum were mates and lived just around the corner - are you sure we aint got the same Dad? Remember Hodgy (strolling midfield genius), Reg Howarth (I am a linesman for the county) Bob (snakehips) Ballinger. I was at Bob's top table at High Wycombe last month on his RAF retirement do - he completed 37 years, I was invited to make a speech on his behalf which I think he regretted. Referring to his extremely tight kd shorts etc. As for your time on our watch - weren't you the RAFAN king?
Noted your retirement in Spain - I'm off to a villa in the hills above Nerja in Andalucia tomorrow with my wife and Mummsiewummsie-in-law.
Sadly, my mum passed away almost 10 years ago and I lost my Dad on Christmas day 1984, so I have'nt been to South Ockendon for years - although my sister lives on Canvey Island which as you know is only 15 miles down the road. Anyway Alan, good to see you're still about - hope you have a long retirement

Re: Siggies

Nobby, how are u then, a real blast from the past. quick update, father dies back in 83, and my mum died in 2005, I made it to co1, or C2 in the MOD. Looked after 3 commcens, and became an area crypto custodian.but managed to get compulsary redundancy, packed it in at 56, 1 month later moved to Moriara near Calpe, bought a large villa, and rent the bottom half out to holidaymakers.
married 31 years, one son john who is 29.
if ever you are up in this neck of the woods, would be very pleased to see you, what can I say

SIGGY SIGGY SIGGY

Alan (BORIS)

Re: Siggies

Hello agen, seems as though we've followed a similar career path. I spent 27 years in the Commcen at Stafford and just like you I was offered a compulsory retirement package at around about the same time. Reached the dizzy heights of Band D myself, albeit on shifts which seriously enhanced my kissoff. I'd already transferred 13 RAF years into he scheme so I came out of it with just under 40 years. I haven't retired completely though - had a year on gardening leave and decided I was'nt ready to put my feet up (wife works) and I have since been working for Tesco delivering nosh for 3 days a week. I thoroughly enjoy it, but we're toying with the retirement abroad lark as well, so who knows, might be joining you in Spain.

Re: Siggies

So you lot are still on here spouting crap?

I've been away courtesy of Her Majesty but I'm back.
I see skip is noticeable by his absence, or is that absence of brains. still wrapped in a postage stamp, I presume.

Where's old Dunlop then, slumped over the bar I suppose.
This site has really gone down the tubes has it not. Are all you siggies (lower case) dying off one by one? There are more postings on the "How to commit suicide" webpage.

If I can work up the enthusiasm I'll be back soon.

Your old mate,

Re: Siggies

To quote from an old comic, "Arrrrrgggghhhhhhhh!!! It's 'im!!!!!" (Jonah, from the Beano)
So, me old mate, or should that be odd mate, where have you been on your holidays? Anywhere nice? What was the accommodation like? Double or single room? Soap on a rope? Let us know how you got on? I still prop up the occasional bar, twice a week, Monday til Thursday, and Friday til Sunday, so nothing has changed there. Looking forward to hearing the latest gen. SIGGIE SIGGIE SIGGIE!!!!

Re: Siggies

So, Confused is still drawing air (albeit putrid)...we have missed your unbiased comments over the last year or so, but no doubt seeing as the Justice Ministry have given in again and let people out early, we shall be hearing a bit more from you?

Re: Siggies

So when did they let you out of Dartmoor, it's a pity they had closed Devils Island

Re: Siggies

I see that you've not returned, are you back on the cobbles of Corrie again?

Re: Siggies

The same old faces are still posting then? You lot are the only ones keeping this site going. I've been reading through the entries since I last made an appearance and I notice that the webmaster of ceremonies has not deigned to make a comment in god knows how long.

SS Titanic, same result.

Your old mate

Re: Siggies

Yep, Siggies STILL rule!!!!!
So, what have you been doing for the past few decades? Or is that too personal a question?

Re: Siggies

Can I make a guess as to why 'Confused' was at HM's pleasure? He seems to have a plethora of IP addresses!

Re: Siggies

Plethora, that's a big word for a non siggie and even bigger for a siggie. I suppose you think it means an ancient dinosaur of some kind, like most of the siggies on here.

I suppose you were POL or Supply? An exciting job and as the old saying goes, someone had to do it.

HM's pleasure, you could say it was hot and Sunni.

Your old mate

Re: Siggies

HM's pleasure was 12 months on Gan which was also hot and Sunni.

Re: Siggies

I found it rather hot and Tigerish!!
