After many British cities worrying about not wanting to offend other cultures by putting up Christmas lights.
.....After hearing that the Birmingham council changed its mind and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered.
.....After hearing of a Primary School in Birmingham where a boy was told that for PE they could wear Football League shirts (Aston Villa, Birmingham, West Brom etc) but NOT an England/Scotland/Ireland/Wales shirt as it could offend others!
This prompted the editorial below written by a UK citizen & published in a British tabloid newspaper.
IMMIGRANTS. NOT BRITON’S MUST ADAPT.
Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks around Britain, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits.
However, the dust from the attacks has barely settled and the politically correct crowd begin complaining about the possibility that our patriotism is offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some who were born here need to understand. This idea of British cities being multicultural centres for the community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Brits, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of wars, struggles, trials, tribulations and victories fought by the untold masses of English/Scottish/Irish/Welsh men and women who laid down their lives for any one of the millions of men and women who have treasured freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Hindustani, Punjabi, Pashtu, Sindhi, Balochi, Seraiki, Hindi, Bengali, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Urdu, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "Dieu et mon droit" "God and my right" is our National Motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.
We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If our national flags offend you, or you don't like “A Fair crack of the whip", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.
We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our National Motto, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great British freedom, "THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".
If you aren't happy here then f#@* off! We didn't force you to come here.
You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU wanted to live in with its freedoms and justice. Pretty easy really, when you think about it.
I don't disagree but was the "learn the language" "dieu et mon droit" bit a joke.
I don't want to get technical Ray, but the French motto originates from Brittany where the Brits originated from in the good old days
Further to above:
A French motto rather than English was chosen because the English language had only recently replaced French as the language of the English ruling classes. Henry spoke French and had been crowned King of France as well as of England.
Hello Tony, I wonder how many of those people would rally to the flag if needed?. I dare bet the vast majority would dissapear to other countries long before the recruting officers called them up...Larry
Religious discrimination rears its head again. The Heathrow check-in girl that got suspended for 3 weeks without pay for wearing a crucifix around her neck. Whilst other ethnic groups were allowed to wear theirs.
What is going on in this country? Why is it the indigenous population that is always seem to be pilloried?
Am I missing the point with what is going on in my own country? Only Christians are forbidden to express their faith. We can't celebrate Religious festivals in case it upsets other ethnic groups. Even the various ethnic leaders agree with us and say they do not feel offended by our religious/national beliefs.
I think the government of this country need to sit down and have a rethink over our national policies that are alienating a vast majority of the UK population.
I am thinking of converting to Islam so I can reap the benefits and concessions that seem to be handed out.
Have already changed to muslim, so gonna be called 'Mahatmacoat' from now on, suppose I will havta get another wife - will havta train another one - bugger that for a game of cowboys, will also havta close the brewery - NO WAY PAL...
What annoys me is the fact that if we go to other countries we have to obey their rules & regulations or get arrested or deported. When other people live hear we still have to obey their rules & they do not conform ours. Surely if they want to live here they should integrate with us not us with them
Ron, alias Mahatma Coat, I think we should go into the cloakroom business, we could show a true feeling of brotherhood between muslims and Scots. We could be Mahatma Coat and Angus McCoatup! What say you?
if we did change to muslims
would we have to give up drinking ????
if that is true, what have i been practising all these years for ????
