Britannia diverted 1969

Anyone remember a Britannia diverting into Gan in 1969 after the tail caught fire on a flight from Singapore to Masirah.
Not sure of the month.
Cheers.
Len.

Re: Britannia diverted 1969

Hello Len,,I was on Gan all of 69,but dont remember the Brittania,,but then one tends to forget half of what went on,,thats what the site is for,and I am sure if someone comes on and brings a little more light on the subject I am sure to know about it...Larry[grsf69]

Re: Britannia diverted 1969

In a similar vain I joined up in 1969,does anyone remember the Phantom losing its canopy taking off in 72 think they parked it up under cover in the MT yard till a team could be flown out to repair.

Re: Britannia diverted 1969

I remember a C130 coming in minus an engine in '72. Can't remember if it was RAF or USAF

Re: Britannia diverted 1969

G'day Geoff,
This was a R.A.F. Brit.
I believe the deicers were left on in the tail section, and the tail caught fire.
Cheers,
Len.
