I traced my family tree before the internet and visited Rushden in 1970s.
I have a long line of forebears who lived in Rushden in the 1800s who were from poor families with many children. They lived in Church End. Imagine my surprise when someone in Alderney came into my office with a copy of the 1851 census which shows that his ancestors Field also lived in Rushden. They were farmers and my relatives worked on the land. Considering that there were only 200 odd people there then how amazing was that ! And both of us ended up in the Channel Island of Alderney also with a small population (1800).
I hope to come back again as my brother lives in Stotfold. I have traced back to Jopseph Head b.1786 but have been unable to trace anything further back as I understand there was a fire and the church records were destroyed.

Thee months ago the sign post for Rushden/Redhill/Sandon & Kelshall between Mill End and Redhill was damaged. This is a vital sign post for at least three households for deliveries and services. The damaged signs were at first placed on the bank but then covered with mud by the skilled craftsmen from the council clearing the ditch and then the signs were removed. What have our parrish council done to have it reinstated? In France it would be a matter of civic pride to have it reinstated as matter of urgency.

Looking for the Ann Singleton family from Rushden U.K. She would be around 70 years old now. I knew her and her family in 1970 when I was stationed at RAF Alconbury. I believe Ann had three children. Her husband was an American US Army Viet Nam Veteran. Ann had a close friend named Pearl.

I shared an office with Ken Parker in the 1970s. He was a true gentleman - generous, erudite and excellent company. I had some great times as his guest in "The Moon & Stars" (which always seemed to be full of bell-ringers and off-duty firemen!). I was very sorry to learn of his death and I know Rushden will be the poorer for his passing.

I have been looking at your Website and mention of The Moon and Stars brought back memories - my father was a customer there in his youth.
I have a lot of connection with Rushden, my father was Ben Cannon son of Benjamin Cannon and Catherine Wright both well known Rushden people in their day. My mother taught at Rushden School before she married my father. I often visited Rushden before we came to Australia and have happy memories of those visits.
I am currently doing family research which was what gave me the idea of having a look at the Website, which I shall continue to do.

i am interested in the meetkerke family history, they came orignally from flanders , from a small village called "meetkerke" near Bruges. I came in the possession of some old documents of this family las summer. I will visit your village this summer . It would be great to see or meet some people who are familiar with the history of the Meetkerke family. I am particularly looking for the beginnings with the first and the second Adolph Meetkerke, beginning of 1600 till the end of 1600.
best regards and maybe till next august or so.
