Jim Wallis

Rev. Jim Wallis, a member of President Obama's "faith council" who is described as a spiritual adviser to the president, is a socialist activist who has championed communist causes and previously labeled the U.S. "the great captor and destroyer of human life."

Wallis was in the news last week urging Christians to stop watching Fox News host Glenn Beck's program for Beck's remarks against churches that preach "social justice."

The Associated Baptist Press described Wallis as a "politically progressive evangelical and longtime advocate for the poor." The Huffington Post identified Wallis as a "Christian author and social justice advocate."

Wallis, however, is a long time socialist advocate and founder of a far-left magazine, Sojourners, that has championed communist causes.

He currently serves on Obama's White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. He reportedly is a spiritual adviser to Obama and has known the president for years.

Wallis began his activism as a protester and then later Michigan leader of the Students for a Democratic Society, the 1960's antiwar group from which Bill Ayers' Weatherman domestic terrorist organization splintered.

Discover the Networks said that as a theology student, Wallis founded an anti-capitalism magazine called the Post-American, which identified wealth redistribution and government-managed economies as the keys to achieving "social justice."

Get "Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto" for an explanation of what it means to be an America.

In 1971, Wallis renamed his magazine Sojourners. He has since served as editor of the publication.

Sojourners' official "statement of faith" urges readers to "refuse to accept [capitalist] structures and assumptions that normalize poverty and segregate the world by class."

Sojourners has published a slew of radicals, including socialist activist Cornel West and James Cone, considered the founder of Black Liberation Theology, which spawned the likes of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor of nearly 20 years.

Wallis' magazine actively lobbied for communist regimes that seized power in Latin America in the late 1970s, including the Sandinista dictatorship in Nicaragua. Sojourners in the 1980s was a fierce opponent of the U.S. nuclear buildup, claiming the policy was "an intolerable evil" irreconcilably at odds with Christianity.

Discover the Networks notes how Sojourners originally formed a socialist commune in Washington, D.C., where members shared finances and launched anti-capitalist activism.

In his 1976 book, "Agenda for Biblical People," Wallis called the U.S. "the great power, the great seducer, the great captor and destroyer of human life, the great master of humanity and history in its totalitarian claims and designs."

Wallis continues to openly support socialism. Along with socialist activist West, Wallis in 1995 founded Call to Renewal, a coalition of religious groups demanding the spread of U.S. wealth to promote "social justice."

As a guest on MSNBC last week, Wallis stated "social justice" is at the heart of the Bible.

"The God of the Bible is the God of justice," he said. "Though the poor are in the center of God's concern... Poverty breaks the heart of God. And it breaks the heart of the church. So, this is about Christians who may disagree on politics. Republicans, Democrats, it doesn't matter. Left or right. We have different views on the role of government. Doesn't matter, But justice is integral to the gospel."

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

This man Wallis was apparently the subject of some of Glenn Beck's radio broadcasts this week. His reply sounds a whole lot more Christian than Glenn's to me. Check it out:

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

Don, sounds to me like what you are saying is just ignorant Morman bashing! And supporting Obamas outrage

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

It seems they all know how to talk the talk Obama, when he was campaigning, led people to believe that he was a moderate..and it seemed Christians were not fooled by him..

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

Here is something to think about, are the Christians in the USA placing their trust in God or in the govt.??

Personally, I think we are supposed to be living above the deeds of the government and keeping out eyes and ears open to the Lord, and prayerfully responding to what God is doing, not emotionally reacting to what the govt is doing.

Our citizenship is not the USA it is in Heaven. We are just aliens here afterall - and quite frankly I think that many people here in the US and abroad have made the USA into a major idol!

Just some thoughts!

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

I couldn't agree more, Melissa. Too many Christians are putting their faith in one party or the other. Our salvation is not in Washington, or in any earthly institution, but in Jesus.

I am as against O's programs as anyone. My favorite bumper sticker to see lately is "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention". And I don't know Jim Wallis from Gym Shorts, but what I read of his reply to Beck sounded a lot more reasonable than the screaming that Beck tends to do, even though some of it is true.

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

One controversial pastor Jeremiah whathisface maybe - two not-Christian pastors I don't think so. From this there can be no doubt left for anyone who had any - Obama is not a Christian.

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

don , I agree with you too! I used to watch Hannity and Coombs and I liked Coomb's manners way more than Hannity's! In my opinion nobody is going to get it right in govt until Jesus is running things officially down here!!

I can't stand most of the stuff in the liberal agenda either but the other side is not looking too good either right now! It is really a freeing thing to just look past these people and right straight up to the Lord and just keep focused on Him!!

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

I love you Melissa but it is exactly that kind of attitude that got us where we are.

The Lord Jesus drew Godly men here to set up a country based on freedom and judeo Christian laws and values.

Good men suffered and died to maintain our freedoms.
Just a few short years ago we were the greatest, most prosperous, god fearing nation in the world.

One by one we let satan rob our blessings away.

Had Christians untited, prayed and stood their ground, prayer would still be allowed in school. millions of babies wouldn't be murdered in their mother's wombs, Irsael would still have our protection, gay marriage would not even be uttered, the porn industry would have been crushed, illicit drugs would not be prevelant, crime would be a fraction of what it is, Jesus Christ wouldn't be mocked and blashpemed in our movies and countless other things would be vastly better in our society.

Instead we elected a godless, evil government who intends to force hellcare down our throats knowing we do not want it to the tune of 4-1 and soon our elderly will be euthanized in the hospitals cause it costs too much money to keep them alive.

Finally due to our apathy, laziness and lack of courage we are facing extreme judgement as the government turns on israel and we as a nation will pay the price.

So it does matter what Christians do and sadly they have done very little to maintain what God has given us. I thank God for true intercessors who at least have held back the hand of judgement this long.

It is coming very soon....God Have Mercy.

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

I agree, 2HH . . Christians need to pray over our country (which was founded by christian leaders) . . AND make our voices known . . It's discouraging that the dem's have lost touch of this country's history and its freedom founding fathers.

. . and now we're feeling the pain of this 'change' indeed.

We, as Christians should be involved on this subject since this is a country that still votes for our elected 'officials'.

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

PS HAD CHSITIANS SIMPLY VOTED ALL THESE YEARS AND OF COURSE VOTED IN LINE WITH OUR BIBLES AS BEST WE CAN WE WOULD NOT BE IN THIS NIGHTMARE.

CHRISTIANS DON'T VOTE! NO WONDER WE HAVE WHAT WE DO.

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

2 HH, On the contrary, I have been disgusted with the fact that prayers were taken out of the school, abortion legalized, pornography legalized, financial corruption, and on and on for a long, long time.

I have been praying for a long time about everything too, so I do not have an apathetic attitude. Of course we can and should speak out too and make our point known, but the people in the govt and in the news media are not getting it right! I don't hear any of them talking about God or the rapture on a daily basis or the things of God. This is a secular society and the media and govt. reflect that.

Also, God does not say in the bible to have anarche if we don't like what is going on - he says to turn the other cheek! Being a Christian is not just a comfort filled life, on the contrary it is a very painful existance in lot of ways because we are not in our home yet.

That said, when I see this stuff going on today I have to respond in a biblical manner to what I am seeing now and the only recourse that I can come up with is to keep praying some more!

We are not here to creat a utopia so that God can come back and reign. That is not how the bible ends. So for me my main focus is not to save the USA but to get people saved for the wonderful future that our Father has for us!!

PS I don't like seeing the Church acting like Lot's wife, I would rather see the Church acting like Jesus' wife in submission to Him!!

Love you too sis

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

All that is needed for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.

Re: Not again! Meet Obama's new controversial pastor

2HH, The reality is that evil is going to come to a full fruition on this earth and then Jesus is going to come back and smash it!

Unfortunately, we are the generation that is witnessing evil becoming full grown but also we will see a major change soon I believe!

The point that I am trying to make is to not get stuck in a secular net but try to keep the focus on Jesus and God's revealed plan in the bible instead!
