Keep up the good work supporting gollies! In this age of Political Correctness, the cheery little chappies need all the help we can give them.

got my Golly (aka Little G) in Southport on 8 June 2008 - he is only 9 inches tall and a bargain at £3. He has the softest fur for hair and is best friends with my sister's Golly (aka Big G) who is 24 inches tall!

My wife and I have just returned from a holiday on the south coast of England. In one gift shop, we stumbled across many 'Golly collectables' including fridge magnets, moneyboxes, mugs and coasters, keyrings etc... Having remarked to my wife that Golly is now on the wrong side of political correctness, I then proceeded to buy a 24" Golly for our youngest daughter, in part, because I remember Golly from my childhood.

As we were standing at the Golly section, another couple entered the shop, upon which the woman remarked to her partner; "I know it's not politically correct anymore, but I'm going to buy a Golliwog". As it turned out, she too had fond memories of Golly from childhood.

I for one, would echo the statement of a past visitor to your guestbook and say; 'Long live Golly!'........

I am desperately searching for lyrics to a song my late Grandma used to sing to me when I was little... I cant remember much of it, but it started "There were six little cots..." and the chorus was "There's a golliwog downstairs"... I cant find the lyrics or anywhere to buy or download the song on the net, but I wondered as you have such an interest in Gollys you might be able to help please?

As a child I used to recite the following Gollywog poem as my party piece....

Really Mr Gollywog, you are a funny fellow
With button eyes and striped coat
and trousers bright yellow
And when you go to brush your hair
Whatever do you do?
I love you Golly - but I'm glad I'm not like you!

I have no idea where it originated from and haven't seen it referenced on any Golly sites I've visited.

Great site, its sad that people of all backgrounds can only enjoy gollys on sites like this. Keep up the good work I hope common sence prevails with the golly issue but I doubt it, now that we have an age where christmas lights are called 'winter lights'

Long Live Golly!
