Searched for VA-152

I am looking for a Spad pilot who on 30 Jun 1965 near Cheo Reo, Phu Bon Province, II Corps, SVN saved some ground troops from possible annihilation. The troops were Vietnamese Airborne accompanied by US advisors (Red Hats). Their FAC (a Red Marker) had been shot down and killed. The troops were ambushed surrounded and almost cut in two when a Spad driver using the call sign Elgin 89 contacted the advisor and volunteered to act as a FAC until a replacement showed up. He put in Navy, Marine, USAF and VNAf strikes and saved the day. I have determined that no USAF unit used the call sign Elgin. I have also found that four Navy Squadrons were on station at the time. Two used other call signs, leaving two possibilities … VA-152 and VA-165. Can anyone tell me the call sign used by VA-152 back in 1965? and was there a different call sign used by the detachment of form planes that flew from Ubon during that time? Contact me directly at redmarker181969@yahoo.com

U.S Veterans Compensation Programs

Do you have any comments?

I really like this website. I visit often to get updates and learn new things about the military and veterans. I have come across many other great websites that are very informative. One website is U.S. Veteran Compensation Programs (http://www.veteranprograms.com). On this website I frequently learn about the latest money available to veterans, benefits for veterans and their families, where to get discounts for veterans, and I get free things from their veteran giveaway program.
Keep up the good work. I will pass the word about your website and I will visit again. Thanks!

I am much younger than Jack. LCHS Class of 1965. USMC 1965-1971. Viet Nam 1967-1968.
I try to spend some of my time paying my respects to people who gave all for their country. This means more because he was from my town and my war. Rest in peace, Jack. I hope your family is at peace and realizes that some people appreciate what you did.

My Father served on the Big "O" during the Korean war. I don't have much information on what exactly it was he did onboard. Just that he was in the Navy and he served on the CVA 34.
I would love to find out more if anyone could help.

As a plebe in USNA '64 I had a second class who was the first to haze me; his name was Osborn http://thewall-usa.com/info.asp?recid=38853
He was convinced we would both be fighting in Vietnam and therefore gave me all kinds of questions about it as part of my hazing. He was an F8 driver and had a BARCAP at midnight off Dixie station. After launch the reflection of his afterburner converged with the flame and then he was gone never to be found. All that training and all that potential gone in less than a second. This is the same emotion I have about this pilot; actually all of them.........and now they live forever young

My name is Wilbur (Bill) Chew, I served aboard the Forrestal in V1 Division (Rep-8 Crash Crew). During the fire of July 29, 1967 I was injured and air-evacuated to the Big O. I was patched up and on July 30,1967 flown to Da Nang in your COD. I am in search of records showing that injured were flown to Da Nang and or any pilots names that may have flown the COD. On July 30, 1967. If you have any recall of flights to Da Nang or ideas as to any sources that may recall flights I would appreciate information, even a “Buddy Letter” from anyone involve or in the know that COD flew injured to Da Nang can help prove “boots on ground”.
