First ever marathon

So I've entered my first ever marathon!! And I haven't got long! I understand that you keep increasing your miles.. but how do you work out what time to aim for?? How much slower do you train than your race pace?? They may sound like silly questions but I've been injured in the past and don't want to do that to myself again 😄

Re: First ever marathon

Karen told me to run your longer training runs 2 minutes slower I think per mile that's all the advice I can remember but mine was a half and also to increase weekly slowly then decrease then increase again etc etc good luck 🤞

Re: First ever marathon

Don't aim for a time, train at a pace you are totally comfortable and happy with and work out from that what time you can hope to achieve.

Which one are you doing and when?

Re: First ever marathon

I'm doing Chelmsford on the 21st October!

Re: First ever marathon

Good choice - fairly local, well organised, gently undulating which is better than flat, mostly quiet country lanes. I've done it twice - haven't decided about this year yet!
