NHRR was selected by the England Athletics East Volunteer Awards as the CLUB OF THE YEAR 2019.
This award was not just based on strong and improved performances in leagues and championships, but also how over the last 12 months we demonstrated our ongoing commitment to the sport and what opportunities we provided.
The East Region awards were presented at Bedford International Stadium on Sunday 1st September.
This is YOUR award. THANK YOU for being a SQUIRREL
Please could you wear club kit on Tuesday 3rd September for a club photo with the award.
this is indeed a great thing, and no doubt a result of a lot of hard work behind the scenes from a lot of our members to show England Athletics what a great club we are.
For those members who are new to the club, and those who were perhaps not aware that this was going on, can you just outline some of the benefits of receiving this award - what does it mean to our members and how will it affect them?
The criteria for the EA's Volunteer Awards Club of the Year is as follows:
"Recognising both the achievements of a club, as well as demonstrating ongoing commitment and passion through the opportunities they have given to everyone involved in the club over the last 12 months.
Nominated clubs must be affiliated to England Athletics.
Location and local factors, as well as the size of the club, will be considered when giving credit for the scale of the club’s achievements.
Creating strong partnerships to increase participation and support the development of the club
Adopting a pro-active approach to the recruitment and retention of volunteers, as well as providing a friendly and supportive environment in which they can develop
Strong or improved club performances in leagues, championships and other club competition through the development of club athletes
Supporting and developing talented athletes and volunteers
Actively engaging with under-represented groups (which could include people with low incomes, BAME, women and individuals with a disability or within certain faith groups)"
So, as Astrid says, it's partly based on this year's great results, but also down to the club's wider efforts to be inclusive.
In terms of how it will affect members, I think the main benefit is in knowing our club is recognised for achieving the above. Well done all!
Oh wow. This is fantastic. Well done team NHRR! No mean feat to be awarded this accolade.
Look forward to seeing you all at Standalone, where the passion of all those involved in making this fantastic race happen, along with the army of volunteers is a fitting showcase for East Region CLUB OF THE YEAR!
